Blog Rot .'.

Nothing to see here

This blog still continues to take up space in the world, but with absolutely nothing happening.

It's really only here to support archival - I'm running a few other blogs (among my other more in-depth projects) but have yet to decide which ones are public.

In the meantime, feel free to check out the pentaphobe site ( http://www.pentaphobe.net/ ) which is soon to live up to it's domain name and become a start page for the numerous facets of familial flabbergastion.

"They're thespians.. .'.

..Don't mind her, she's just showing off.

She doesn't even know where Thespia is."

No blogging for the time being; brain is cold.
But Kym and I have made a couple of sites recently:

http://www.circusfest.com/
http://www.thecandybutchers.com/ (okay, more of a placeholder for now)

There are a few more awaiting finishing touches.
more as the brain thaws...

Sa'iyr is here.. .'.

And arriving at people's houses.

This is the part I've been worried about.. responses so far have been extreme.. in one way or another.

Some people seem overjoyed about it, other seem to feel ripped off. eek!

Also kind of bummed about a few things:
  • the lack of "Sa'iyr" in the title (don't get me started on that one again)
  • the whole panel of technicoloured albums in the sleeve
  • the little "publicity" paragraph on the back. Completely inaccurate - the text was written as the origin of the album, and in reference to the track "SomeEye", not the album as a whole. This also seems to be a sore spot for someone at amazon.com who gave the first rating at 1 fuckin star! :(
  • a few people have questioned the middle-eastern connection. fair enough: no tracks were intended to sound middle eastern.
BUT.. almost every track contains rhythms, structures and permutations that originated in the middle east.
The whole point originally was: people have been making music using Middle-Eastern _samples_ for ages, aim for a reinterpretation of old ideas in the "pentaphobe style". In fact, the idea was to steer clear of the "arabic electronic music" genre entirely, or any other "world electronica" (there are plenty of people doing that with far more raw resources than I have)

I guess the problem people are having is: Imagine you were hoping to get an acid-jazz CD (may ye burne in helle) but instead got Squarepusher.

That is no doubt the feeling that someone looking for "bellydance music" or "arabic pop" is going to get when they buy Sa'iyr.

bummer dude.

Amusing reflections on googlism .'.

So, I did the annual vanity googling, and was far from impressed.

A few years ago I did a Robbie Williams video in which we have simulated sex (long story).
I got interviewed about it after the fact, at the insistence of my agent at the time - and have now had the pleasure of reading my "quotes."

Now, anyone that knows me well enough would look at this and immediately disregard it as fabricated bullshit. There are definately words, or short phrases that I said during the interview, but they've been chopped up, rearranged, and just plain synthesized into this illiterate, culturally ignorant, shallow character.

Obviously - the interviewer was looking for phrases they could use to call Mr. Williams' sexuality into question.

for example: KEILI OLSEN, a male actor in the video, says, "Robbie started going at it before they even loaded the film. There was about half an hour of fairly intense activity."

Now - I wouldn't personally agree with "my" statement. For one, I was in the room for all of 5 minutes. Additionally, I was probably the only one in there that wasn't uncomfortable - I've done some weird things whilst acting - simulating sex in my underwear is far from a big deal.

There's all sorts of amusing "quotes" to be found, it seems the same lines have been reassembled at at least 6 different new sites. One of my personal faves is:

"I wasn't really comfortable about it. I'm straight and although it was just a part, it's not something I'd like to do again.

"Robbie started going for it before they even loaded the film.

"THere was about hald an hour of fairly intense activity. To me it was just another gig -- but Robbie was really into it."

"I wasn't really comfortable about it" ??? sheesh

anyway..

thanks for letting me vent :)

oh - other amusing googles: the IMDB only recognises one gig of mine, and it was as a dead person.. ahahahaha..

oh dear.

It begins! foogin Hax0r3d .'.

That's right everyone! I may only be on 25 hits a day, but that's apparently popular enough for someone to tamper with the audio section of the page.

My appy-polly-loggies to anyone who attempted to access music since the 23rd of January, 2005.

I will put the music back up really soon, but my priorities are currently:
  • work out how this happened
  • work out who did it
  • work out how to prevent it happening again
  • work out how many pieces I'm going to slice the culprit into when I find 'em.
The positive sides: I keep extensive logs, I like puzzles, I was going to change it anyway.
